Implant Pre/Post Operative Care of the Mouth

NO SMOKING: High risk of implant failure when smoking takes place after implant placement.

SWELLING: Hold an ice pack on the cheek where the implant was placed for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off for the next 24 hours to reduce swelling.

PAIN: Recommend to take Ibuprofen for pain as instructed below.

DIET: Eat soft foods for the first week. Avoid eating and chewing near the area of the mouth where the implant was placed for at least two weeks. Avoid eating foods high in salt, spice and citrus foods or juice, including tomatoes. Avoid popcorn, chips, nuts or anything hard for two weeks as to avoid irritating or burning implant placement site.

ORAL HYGIENE INSTRUCTIONS: Avoid brushing the area for the first week. Beginning tomorrow, start using Chlorhexidine rinse as instructed below. Avoid any strenuous activity for the first week such as heavy lifting. If an emergency occurs, please call the office at (702) 212-6641.

Pharmacological protocol for implant placement:
Ibuprofen 800mg
1 tab 1 hour prior to appointment then 2 times a day for 3 days. Chlorhexidine
3 times a day for 7 days
Amoxicillin 500mg
4 tabs 1 hour prior to appointment then 1 tab 3 times per day for 7 days until gone.
Or
Cleocine 300mg
2 tabs 1 hour prior to appointment then 1 tab 3 times per day for 5 days until gone.
